The Design-a-thon, hosted by New Era Cap in collaboration with Buffalo State University, empowers students to push the boundaries of design and showcase their skills while reflecting New Era Cap’s values. Guided by mentors and industry professionals, this immersive event fosters creativity and innovation, culminating in a closing ceremony celebrating outstanding creations and networking opportunities within the fashion industry while exposing students to the array of career opportunities at New Era.

Participants will be tasked with using recycled New Era headwear and apparel items to create avant-garde works of art! The final creations will be on display at New Era! Participants will be encouraged to think progressively and outside the box to create an avant-garde, larger-than-life garment that isn’t for wearing but displays creativity and sustainability. All materials will be provided, but participants are welcome to bring additional supplies.

The 2025 Design-a-thon will be an experience unlike any other exclusively for Buffalo State University FTT and graphic design students on the weekend of March 14, 2025. The weekend will begin with an opening ceremony on Friday, March 14, at New Era’s Global Headquarters in Buffalo, NY! Participants will meet their teammates, learn about the 2025 Design-a-thon theme, and choose materials. Saturday, March 15, will be a full day of designing and receiving mentorship within the familiar walls of Buffalo State in the Technology Building. Sunday, March 16, will be a day of perfecting your design and preparing for the final design showcase and judging.

The winning team  will be awarded a cash prize and a 2025 summer internship* at New Era Cap. *Official contest rules will apply.
